We are particularly interested in how using smartphones (and their apps) might make us feel more lonely, or—if we use them right—more connected.
“Phoneliness” = smartphone + loneliness
Most people on earth have smartphones now. These devices have the potential to reach out to anyone. Yet the problem of loneliness is still very real for nearly all humans.
How is this possible?
What’s more, we use our phones that actively take us away from real human interaction. We check our phones at the dinner table, or glance at our email while walking with a friend.
Can we curb our smartphone habits so they help us feel more connected, and not more isolated?
